An Accra High Court has adjourned to Friday, October 7, for hearing the suit filed against the Electoral Commission by the Progressive People’s Party, PPP.
This is because the Attorney General, (AG) failed to appear in court.
The court has therefore ordered that the AG be served with a copy of motion filed by the EC requesting an abridgement of the time set for the hearing of the suit against it.
The EC wanted the suit to be heard on an early date which is today.
The PPP did not oppose the motion filed by the Commission.
The hearing however, suffered a setback because of the failure of the AG to appear in court even though there was evidence that they have been served with the process.
The suit was originally scheduled to be heard on the 11th of this month but the EC claims that will cause a possible delay in its operations which might affect the conduct of the 2016 general elections.
The PPP has sued the EC over the collection of filing fees from candidates for the elections claiming that it is unlawful.
