Abossey Okai, Makola traders strike…close shops in taxes protest

traders at two key business trading centres in Ghana’s capital, Accra, have shut down their operations in protest over high taxes.

It is not clear if the protest will extend into another business day.

Today’s protest come on the back of weeks of discussions between the leadership of the traders on one side and government on the other, over high taxes.

The taxes they’ve argued, are killing, and seek to frustrate their businesses, which they add isn’t doing well under the current climate.

Kasapa FM‘s Leticia Ohene Asiedu has been speaking to some traders at the Abossey Okai facility, which is home to shops that deal in car spare parts, and reports that the traders are bent on sticking to their demand for justifiable taxes.
