Already, the public is aware that it is easier for a Ghanaian Northerner to pass through the eye of a needle than to become prominent and influential inside the New Patriotic Party, due to the insistence of the Akan few who control that party, that the Northerner must remain subjugated to their superiority complex. Today, this sect have surrogates in the media who exercise their subjective views as though cultures they know nothing about are below them.
From Nigeria through Ghana to the Saharawi Republic, Sub-Saharan African Muslims, during merry-making occasions shower currency notes on star persons, who sing or dance, during such programmes. This is a common practice to indigenous Africans too.
But the New Patriotic Party, under the approving leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has seized another expensive opportunity to exercise its long standing xenophobic scorn for Ghanaians of Northern extraction against this long held Islamic culture. http://ghanapoliticsonline.com
Northerners in Ghana, whose cultures are heavily influenced by the Islamic one, also practice this art of showering currency notes on persons singing on dancing. It is their way of life. It is what defines them. It is one of the things that inspire them when they make mary. President Mahama and Alhaji Inusah Fuseini are bonafide Ghanaians of Northern extraction. They deserve to exercise their culture in the company of their Northern brethren.
But the NPP looks at them and sees an opportunity to scorn, despise and to expose this culture to public ridicule in other to score public political favour. They do this without realising that the persons who gather on such occasions are Ghanaians who have votes or have the capacity to influence votes; the votes they crave.
The Northerner who is marrying and is being showered with the currency notes would not take the NPP’s current onslaught against the practice lightly. The families of such persons would be put off once they read those condemnations of the practice coming from the NPP. By attacking the practice the NPP has confronted a whole constellation of networks of people whose cultures are not negotiable on the platter of political propaganda.
