1 dead, 6 injured in Cape Coast – Elmina accident

One person has been confirmed dead in an accident that occurred at dawn on the Cape Coast – Elmina highway on Sunday. Within a period of 30 minutes, a second accident occurred just around the same place.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to tv3network.com said the first accident occurred when the private Mercedes Benz crashed into the oncoming truck loaded with coconuts between Ahomka FM and Oyster Bay.

The driver of the Mercedes Benz died on the spot with the vehicle mangled. Passers bys rushed to the scene to help the situation. They created a diversion for other vehicles while they attempt to clear the road.

Few moments after, a bigger truck loaded with timber refused warning signs and people trying to caution it to slow down and it rammed into a taxi which had slowed down due to the first accident.

The passengers in the taxi were injured and have been rushed to the hospital. Police and Fire Service officials responded as soon as they could to save lives.

It took close to about 5 hours for the wreckages to be cleared to allow the free flow of traffic. This accident comes on the back of a horrendous one that happened on Wednesday night on the Tamale – Kintampo stretch which claimed over 70 lives.
